If the Walpoles were once one of the most powerful aristocratic families in all of England, spearheaded by Sir Robert, Great Britain’s first prime minister, their legacy endures in at least two of the four powerhouses of Norfolk, Houghton and Wolterton. These two dwellings stand more impressive than ever, in majestic testament to the family’s ambition over three centuries ago – but, really, it’s thanks to visionary designers and real-life couple, Peter Sheppard and Keith Day, that Grade I listed Wolterton is the all-singing, all-dancing 42,000 sq foot tribute of today.
